Pablo Vierci en "Este Es El Plan": ¿"La sociedad de la nieve" gana el Oscar?

Society of the Snow” is “the most incredible story ever told,” a film based on the Andes flight disaster, inspired by the book by author Pablo Vierci, and Spain’s official entry for “Best International Feature Film” at the 2024 Oscars. Journalist Daniel Castro had the opportunity to interview Vierci on his program “Este Es El Plan,” produced by Agencia Asertiva and broadcast on Canal 11 in Punta del Este.

Vierci was a classmate and teammate of 16 members of the “Old Christians Club” rugby team who were aboard Flight 571. The writer described himself as the “class scribe.” A series of coincidences led him to become the author of the book and, subsequently, associate producer of the film “Society of the Snow.”

During the interview, Vierci shared his experience during the film’s production: “We were in the middle of the pandemic with one set at 3,000 meters, another at 2,000 meters, and another at sea level—amidst hardship and deep uncertainty.”

The dream of walking the red carpet and winning an Oscar remains strong following the film’s successful closing at the Venice Film Festival. For Vierci, the story of the Andes is a feat of generosity. The conversation between Castro and Vierci highlights the Uruguayan spirit of a nation that does not give up and that vindicates the human spirit.
